$1000 in food donations given to local nonprofits

B. H. Graning Landscapes donates $1000 to local Christian Ministries.

On March 30th, Governor Roy Cooper issued North Carolina’s Stay at Home Order.  We at B. H. Graning Landscapes, Inc. were fortunate enough to be considered an essential business while schools and other businesses temporarily closed their doors.  The impact on our community has been great as these are uncertain times.  To assist during this pandemic, and to help feed those in need, B. H. Graning Landscapes will be giving back to the community by donating $500 to United Christian Ministries in Jackson County and $500 to Haywood Christian Ministry. Our community is essential to us and we hope this contribution can help those families that find themselves in need.

B. H. Graning Landscapes donates $1779.00 to Vecinos

Children of BHGL families gather each year at our annual Christmas Party with our charity check. The actual donation amount is adjusted for donations collected at the Christmas party.

How does our annual Christmas Charity Program work?

B. H. Graning Landscapes, Inc. employees are offered two options to donate to our annual Christmas Charity Program. Participating employees either elect to have deductions from payroll or give a one time end of the year contribution. Those that have donated come together to vote on local charities to receive the funds raised.

In 2019, BHGL employees raised $889.50. The company then matches the employee donations so the nonprofit chosen will receive $1779.00. The nonprofit organization chosen by our employees for 2019 was Vecinos, a nonprofit health organization advocating for farm workers in Western North Carolina. For more information about Vecinos, please visit www.vecinos.org.

2019 Sylva Christmas Parade

Each year. the Town of Sylva chooses a theme for the local Christmas parade. This year's theme was Christmas Past and Present. Our B. H. Graning Landscapes Christmas Parade Committee determined that we would participate with a traditional Christmas hayride. Our Snowman made an appearance again this year in the back of one of our snowplowing trucks. Candy was distributed by employees off the Gator.

We hope all that attended enjoyed this year's parade. Until we see each other again, Merry Christmas.

Hands On Jackson, October 2019

B. H. Graning Landscapes continues to support Hands On Jackson.

in 2018, B. H. Graning Landscapes participated in the first Hands on Jackson, a day of volunteering event here in Jackson County, North Carolina.  During this event, we were able to rebuild a deck and complete a landscape clean up for a local resident in need.

There is such joy to be in a position to help others in our community that are in need.  B. H. Graning Landscapes takes pride in our community and we feel blessed to live and work in such a beautiful place here in Western North Carolina.

We naturally wanted to continue this effort.  B. H. Graning Landscapes was once again fortunate enough to be able to donate a crew to the Hands on Jackson event in 2019.  We were assigned to preform a landscape cleanup in the Cullowhee area.  Our crew spent an entire day onsite to ensure this resident's property was free of debris and beautiful again.

If you are interested in fall or winter landscape clean ups, please contact us to schedule your free estimate.

Circles of Hope Jackson County

At Circles of Hope Jackson County, we believe that responsibility for both poverty and prosperity rests not only in the hands of individuals, but also with societies, institutions, and communities. Our approach is a progressive model grounded in research that suggests low-income families must have strong social capital and connections within their communities in order to improve their economic situation. As of January 2014, there were more than 80 Circles groups nationwide. The Jackson County, North Carolina, group started in 2014 and launched its first Circles in April 2015. The Circles consist of low-income Circle Leaders who enroll in Circles Leadership Training/Development to build financial, emotional, and social resources. In addition, each Leader creates an Economic Stability Plan that sets goals unique to his or her own needs and dreams.Working with the Circle Leaders within the Circle are trained, middle- to high-income community volunteers, called Allies, who support the efforts of the Leaders to achieve economic stability. Each week, Circles meet to discuss strategies for attaining prosperity and to provide peer support. Monthly Big View meetings feature community discussions about the systemic barriers to prosperity and strategies to remove them.
